HG-1 Prime: How Our Pre-Orders Work
With the HG-1 Prime getting closer to production, I thought it would be a good time to explain how we’re handling pre-orders, what to expect, and why we’re bringing back our original 2012 pricing.
A Little Bit of History
When we introduced the original HG-1 in 2012, it sold for $849.95. Fourteen years and a few thousand grinders later, we’re bringing that price back for the introductory pre-order period.
It’s a small homage to where we started, and a way of thanking those who have followed the HG-1 over the years.
The regular price of the HG-1 Prime will be $1,094.95, so the pre-order represents a savings of $245. Once the introductory offer ends, the grinder will return to its regular price.
When Can I Pre-Order?
We’ll begin accepting HG-1 Prime pre-orders on Thursday, November 5, 2026, and close the introductory offer on Thursday, November 19.
If you’d like to know when pre-orders open, you can sign up for our mailing list. We’ll send an announcement when ordering begins.
You can also join the HG-1 Prime waitlist by selecting your preferred finish and clicking JOIN WAITLIST.
During those two weeks, you can reserve your HG-1 Prime at our original 2012 price of $849.95 with a $149.95 deposit.
After November 19, the introductory pricing will end, and the HG-1 Prime will return to its regular $1,094.95 price. We expect to continue accepting orders at the regular price while production is underway.
How the Deposit Works
We’re asking for a $149.95 deposit to reserve a grinder from the first production run.
The remaining $700, plus shipping and any optional upgrades, will be due before your grinder ships.
The pre-order price includes applicable US import duties and tariffs, but not Florida sales tax where applicable. Our usual free domestic shipping offer does not apply to pre-orders.
You won’t be asked to pay the balance until we’re preparing to ship your grinder.
When Will the Grinders Ship?
We’ve been working with our manufacturers on the production schedule, and we’re currently targeting completion toward the end of March 2027.
With that in mind, we’re estimating shipments in late Q1 to early Q2 2027, roughly March through April. Delivery times will vary depending on your location and the shipping service.
As anyone involved in manufacturing knows, schedules don’t always go exactly according to plan. Components can take longer than expected, production can run into unexpected issues, and shipping introduces its own uncertainties.
We’ll provide regular updates throughout production so you’re not left wondering what’s happening.
If we anticipate missing the estimated shipping window, we’ll let you know, provide a revised estimate when available, and give you the choice to continue waiting or cancel for a full refund.
What Happens if You Change Your Mind?
We understand that circumstances change, particularly when there’s a few months between placing an order and receiving it.
If you decide to cancel before making your final payment, we’ll refund your deposit, less any payment-processing fees that we cannot recover.
If we’re unable to meet our estimated shipping window and you don’t want to accept the revised date, we’ll refund your deposit in full.
Can I Change My Color Choice?
If you change your mind about Panda or Obsidian after placing your pre-order, no problem. Just get in touch and we’ll be happy to switch your reservation to the other finish, provided you let us know before your grinder goes into final production.
A Pre-Order, Not Crowdfunding
I think this is an important distinction.
We’ve been designing, manufacturing, and shipping HG-1 grinders since 2012. We’ve produced a few thousand grinders over the years, and we’ve learned quite a bit about small-scale manufacturing along the way.
The HG-1 Prime isn’t a concept we’re hoping to develop. It’s the next generation of a grinder we’ve been building and refining for more than a decade.
We’ve taken pre-orders before, and we’ve always delivered.
Your deposit reserves a grinder from our upcoming production run. It’s not a contribution toward developing an unproven product.
What If You’d Rather Wait?
That’s perfectly fine too.
We’re planning to maintain inventory once production is underway, so there should be opportunities to purchase the HG-1 Prime without placing a pre-order.
The difference is the price. The $849.95 introductory offer is limited to the pre-order period, after which the grinder will return to its regular $1,094.95 price.
There’s no need to rush into a purchase if you’re not comfortable with the wait.
For those who have been following the HG-1 since the beginning, we thought bringing back the original price would be a nice way to start this next chapter.
We’ll have more to share as production progresses.
